From the get-go, the HighWay has clearly been designed for membership gyms and leisure facilities.

It is full height. Standing at over 2.2 metres high, it cannot be hurdled over. Yet this gym & fitness membership turnstile will securely allow for a high foot fall throughput of up to 20 persons per minute.

Traditional turnstiles as their name suggests, ‘turn’.

They turn because they are based around a central turning rotor that the identified member passes through to either enter or leave the gym.

All very good and ideal for some membership gyms and leisure facilities. However they are clunky to use, they are not DDA compliant and often require a further side gate or door to allow access and a form of emergency escape.

The HighWay full height turnstile however does not have a rotor, but instead it has a pair of full height swing glass panels, just like a double door, making a full one metre passage width, so wheelchair friendly and DDA compliant.

When access is granted and that person begins to transit the HighWay, both full height glass panels swing open outwards in the direction of their travel to allow a secure passage through.

Think of the HighWay as a pair of fast acting swing doors with side panels to guide the person through.

Using artificial intelligence algorithms and a large number of high-precision infrared passage sensors, the HighWay turnstile detects and sounds the alarm when two people try to pass using one ID card/tag, or pass in the wrong direction or pass without authorisation.

Be assured that the Highway will integrate and work with your existing gym membership platform and/or access control system. It has tech that was designed to be fully integrated with other companies tech.

It is probably worth mentioning at this point that the HighWay with such impressive features and functionality, is also being installed within data centres and factory environments.

And another clever feature; If the glass door leaves are purposely forced to the point where they could break or cause damage to the mechanism.

Rather than allow it to smash or break, the clutch mechanism on the doors will give way to let the abusing person through, but thereafter reset so it is ready and working for the next person to use it.

It is like a self-preservation mechanism. By not rendering the gym turnstile out of action with expensive damage to be repaired, it reluctantly gives way with alarms sounding so the abuser can be identified at a later time on the gym’s CCTV system to be dealt with accordingly.

Feedback from gym owners and operators told us that when their membership control equipment (turnstiles, speed gates or door mechanisms) fail due to abuse, they have to take the financial hit for abuse of membership and loss of earnings until it gets fixed.

We listened to gym owners feedback and therefore within the Highway turnstile design, provided the mechanical answer with the servo-driven (BLOC) mechanism and clutch mechanism to prevent this type of failure.

It is more cost effective and serves the gym and leisure facilities operators better to design the equipment to capitulate to this type pressure and then resetting to be available for genuine members.

Although the HighWay is the ultimate membership barrier solution, turnstiles or speed gates in the gym or fitness centre reception area also have their place. They offer the automated solution for members to arrive and leave by presenting a unique method of identity to the barrier and pass through the control point.

This process can be monitored by reception staff who are observing the area however are free to carry out their other tasks.

The speed gate or turnstile will only automatically open for a single person if the access control system is satisfied that their form of electronic identity has confirmed their membership is valid, up to date and approved.

Non-members, expired members or visitors cannot automatically pass through this control point and therefore interaction with the reception personnel is required.
